Thematic Development in Students’ Report Writing: A Study Based on Achievement Level

This study examines Thematic Development types based on the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics that are used by tertiary students. It aims to find out how students produce effectively and efficiently their report texts. The data were all clauses taken from fifteen students’ text divided into three levels: high, middle, low achievement. findings showed there patterns in text, they Theme Reiteration, Zig-zag, Multiple-Rheme patterns. most dominant pattern is Reiteration occurred 50 times (67.5%), followed Zig-Zag 18 (24.3%), occurs 6 (8.1%). dominance texts enable readers focus a specific element follow development text.
